The Rattlesnake Rattle Jar

Are we the only family who has one of these? My grandmother had a jar, my father had a jar, and now my son has a jar. I have a fairly strong personality, and when I feel very strongly about something, I typically put up a pretty good fight. So I am not exactly sure how I did not win this disagreement, because.....well.....this is full on disgusting. Not to mention that I HATE snakes. But my son came running in the house the other day so excited to add another set of beads to his collection. I told him I thought I had probably thrown them out, because I genuinely could not imagine that I would actually keep a jar of rattlesnake rattles IN MY HOUSE. This news brought the saddest look to his face, but slowly his saddness turned into a sly grin, because he said he thought he knew where they were. Sure enough. He climbed up to a cupboard and in the back, there was the jar. He added his treasure to the collection and lectured that I was never to throw any of this away. So here I am, sitting in my kitchen knowing there is a jar of rattlesnake rattles in my own house, which makes my skin crawl. And all I can think is that this desire to keep these disgusting things must be genetic and somehow I was a carrier of the gene. My own blood, a carrier of such a gene. It can't be.
