The 4th of July is a fun holiday, and is certainly a reason to celebrate. But it's also a time to remember that freedom isn't free. On July 4, 1776, America was officially liberated from Great Britain. I'm not going to even attempt to get historical on you. My knowledge of history is limited, at best. But I do know we have fought wars and lost lives to give us the freedom we have today, and how, as a nation, we seem to be going backwards. People are shouting their opinions from the rooftops, and chastising those who don't agree with them. Friendships ended over a pandemic. Fights and rioting broke out over racism. "My body, my choice" is being spewed by the right to protest mandatory vaccine, and by the left to protest abortion laws, though neither seem to believe this when it doesn't fit their agenda. The expression "wake up, people" is often the caption of many shared articles on social media. This expression makes my skin crawl, because it is only used when the opinion of the article fits the person's agenda. Guaranteed there is someone out there who is sharing an article that has exactly the opposite perspective, and they are likely captioning it with "wake up, people". So as you celebrate today (or make hay, because that's what most ranchers in this area are doing today), keep in mind what it took to get our freedom, and what we are doing with that privilege. Also, I want to add two expressions that would help us all out immensely if we lived by them:
1. "Stay in your lane."
2. "Keep the government out of it."
Happy 4th of July everyone!
